Beertown.NZ has 23,000 views and published almost 60 posts in its first six months, but now it’s time to get serious.
The goal is simple – to give New Zealand an online news hub for the craft beer community. Opportunities for sponsors, supporters and advertisers are available now, and I’m working with web developer Pete Moran to develop a new, online magazine format.
Working together to direct traffic to a common hub benefits everyone. It gives us all the opportunity to make and read stories that are ignored or misreported in other media.
Consumers know where to go to find out more about great beers and the stories behind them. Retailers, bars and brewers can promote their ranges and reach their supporters. We all have online audiences, and by pooling them into a common hub we can create New Zealand’s Go-To site for industry news.
An independent and professional craft beer industry needs independent and professional beer writing. So to take this next step I need to make Beertown.NZ financially sustainable.
Note that I will not be adding a pay wall. That would be counter-productive to getting as much news out to as many readers as possible. And that’s why I’m not crowd-funding – I don’t want a two-tier audience.

And meantime, watch this space!
